Kyle

How We Met and got together

We first met at ACU at a weekend retreat, but Kyle was 2 years older, really skinny, and had a girlfriend and nothing happened until 5 years later when we re-met at Altamesa Church of Christ.  Jessica had moved to Fort Worth for grad school at TCU and was looking for a church home...one with a group of people her age and “potentials” (as her dad would say.)  On September 5th, 2004, Jessica ventured to Altamesa and ended up scoring a cute boy’s (Kyle) digits.  A few days later, Jessica called Kyle to ask about something at church...and to smoothly ask if he happened to want to go rollerblading that week.  It worked!  We went rollerblading and got to know each other, and 2 weeks later we went rollerblading again (Kyle asked this time.)  There was one more rollerblading outing before we went on what qualifies as a date (because Kyle paid)– we went to see the movie Garden State and went to Jessica’s and played Jenga.  After a couple more weekend dates, we finally told each other that we liked each other as more than friends and made it official.  That’s our story of how we came to be “Kyle and Jessica.” 

On November 11, 2005, we went rollerblading again.  Kyle had left work a little early and met Jessica at her apartment before we set off for the Trinity Trails.  Jessica had been waiting for Kyle to propose for months, and she could tell something might happen that day because Kyle was acting extra affectionate and we went a way that we hadn’t gone since our very first rollerblading trip.  Also, we usually take off rollerblading and don’t stop along the way, but Kyle wanted to take a break and just hang out at this bridge for a little while.  We just talked for a bit, but Jessica wanted to keep going a little further.  So, we continued rollerblading.  On the way back Kyle wanted to stop at the same bridge again.  Jessica entertained herself by trying to spit on the turtles under the bridge but she kept missing.  Kyle wasn't really saying much, but Jessica commented on how it was a pretty area with the bridge and the woods and that it would be a good place to take pictures.  Kyle responded, “Oh, like wedding pictures?”  Jessica was just referring to pictures in general, but now Kyle had a lead into what he was about to ask.  He then said “Well, I want to marry you.  Do you want to marry me?” as he got down on one knee in his rollerblades and pulled a small wooden box that he had made out of his pocket.  The box contained the ring that Jessica now wears.  She likes it and she likes Kyle a whole lot too.
